Ten Dragon Tails
Candy Taylor Tutt
Reviewed by Barb Radmore
Candy Taylor Tutt has been fascinated by dragons since she read her
first book about them in 1981. It is this obsession that has given
birth to this excellent collection of short stories, each starring a
dragon. This is wonderfully fanciful assortment of tributes to these
winged creatures of imagination (or a remembrance of ancient realities?)
Many of the stories are based on traditional or well known tales but
with the twist of an added dragon. The Loch Ness Monster does exist but
it is not a serpent or other animal as expected. The Garden of Eden and
a snake? Nope. From love stories to the tragic end of Atlantis dragons
were there to witness it all. Tutt has created a world filled
with delighful dragons,
some magical, some practical but all glorious. She has created 10
stories that inspire dreams and creativity. It is a book that
sparks the readers' night time fancies and inhabits them with large,
scaled beauties.
Each story is a tribute to the writing prowess of the author and to the
subject itself. The stories will delight readers who enjoy fantasy,
short stories or just well written literature. The tales criss cross
time and location, each one written in appropriate style, vocabulary
and influence of the setting. That is a truely difficult accomplishment
to do consistantly with each saga. Tutt not only manages it, she
does with a fluid ease of craftmanship.
Any hope of a second assortment of stories coming? We can only hope and
continue our own inspired dreams.
