Captain Chasidah Bergen know as Chaz for short is a fugitive from the justice of a corrupt empire.  Travelling with her is her lover Gabriel Ross Sullivan (or Sully for short) who is a telepath and used to be a monk.  They are hoping to live a quite life until Chaz hears of her brother’s arrest and the death sentence against him.  Of course this is a ploy to force the pair out of hiding and it works well.  Turning their quiet lives into a battle against time.

The battle has just begun though!  A killer is murdering human females and breeding Jukor war machines and Chaz and Sully’s busy life is just getting busier.  If that wasn’t enough to keep them on their toes Chaz’s ex-husband Philip comes on to the scene making things even more difficult.

Will Chaz and Sully make the right decisions?  They could loose family and friends as well as their own lives.  Their relationship is in the balance too and with so many things going on will they manage to keep it altogether and come out unscathed on the other side?

Shades of Dark is the sequel to Gabriel's Ghost.  If however you haven’t read Gabriel’s Ghost this new story will daze and confuse you slightly.  Even though there is a good strong story with lots of twists and turns this book is hard to follow if you haven’t visited this world before.  This of course is good for the author because she has managed to create something new and people who enjoy this read will look for her other books.  However it could be very off putting for the people who pick this up on the off chance.

With a nice mixture of Sci-fi and romance the lovey dovey parts are kept to a minimum and are not too in your face.  This will be a relief for people who like the Sci-fi genre but don’t like things to be too romancy.   ‘Shades of Dark’ is filled with more action than love and has some good hard characters that you will grow to like and will want to visit again.  With every chapter ending on a cliff-hanger you can’t stop yourself from reading more and more.

Linnea Sinclair used to be a news reporter and private investigator before becoming a
ROTA award winning author for her Science fiction and fantasy novels.  Of course as you can tell by her books she is a big Star Wars and Star Trek fan.
