Hooked

Hooked is a clever idea for a plot. It is based on the "you'd better be
careful what you ask for" premise of many stories and fables. Cover
credit is given to the original Grimm's brothers' fairy tale.
Woody has it bad for waitress Madalina. He is desperate for her
attention but no idea how to get noticed by such a beauty. It takes the
help from an unlikely source- a wish granting fish from the sea.
As Madalina's wishes come true, her desires become increasingly
demanding. But Woody is happy to make her dreams become reality if it
keeps her coming back to him. But, as literary history tells us, there
may not be the happily ever after ending that Woody anticipates.
Jane May has written a light romp that gives credit to tales that have
come before with a 21st century slant on this fairy tale. It is quick
read, a fun one for anyone looking for a clearly penned, competant
book. It will appeal to readers of chick lit, romance and light humor.
May has a good ear for her topic and characters. The characters are
broadly drawn, able to meet the stereotype of the plot. Even the bad
guy is perfectly in character. She adheres to the structure of the
fairy tale while turning it into a fresh, contemporary story of love
and desire.
