The Go-Giver
Bob Burg and John David Mann
The Go-Giver: A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea, is an
exceptional business/success book that's told in a novel style and is
kept short and interesting by the authors. It is easy to read, no big
words so I finished the book in a one sitting. The book's message is
well written in a straightforward and inspiring way but the way it is
incorporated into a fictional story made it more interesting and easier
to understand.
In the story, there are five laws of stratospheric success: The Law of
Value, Law of Compensation, Law of Influence, Law of Authenticity and
Law of Receptivity. Of these 5 laws, The Law of Value and Influence
makes a big impact in my life.
The Law of Value - Your true worth is determined by how much more you
give value than you take in payment.
In a world where it seems businesses are out to get money than the
service they offer of the quality of the goods they sell to customers,
it is so refreshing to find a business book that teaches the opposite.
Giving with the expectation of a return frequently leads to
disappointment. The book teaches giving because you're compelled to
give, being of service as a way of life and work is what leads to
success. This to me is a much nicer way to live life!
The Law of Influence This clearly makes sense. If you put other's
people's interests first, you give them what they want and in return,
(without you expecting for the return), you get the incentive sometimes
way beyond your expectations. It's not a secret that people do business
with those they know, like and trust.
The book's topic of networking was an inspiring read. It seems like a
simple idea that most of us constantly forget. I believe in networking,
genuine friendships and giving without expecting in return. In the
book, Bob and John explain, "everyone in your network is a walking
ambassador for you" and we all know that word of mouth is also
essential in any successful business!
As soon as I finished reading the little red powerful book, I wanted to
give my friends one copy each to spread the message, the inspiration to
improve their businesses and/or personal life!
I am a fan of success how-to books and I am glad I read this one. This
book talks about how to achieve success in a non-traditional way and it
not only talks about simple success but stratospheric success and we do
not need special talent or skill or high educational background to
achieve it. It is all inside us. A small paradigm shift is all it take
and a new outlook on the passage, "it's better to give than to receive".
