First Daughter: White House Rules follows First
Daughter: Extreme American Makeover. In
the first book readers are introduced to sixteen-year-old Sameera. Her dad is a contender in the race for the
presidency of the USA, wins the fight and now, in this second book, has
become
president.
This second book follows Sameera as she
moves into the White House. Trying to
get used to the changes in her life and the lack of privacy are just
some of
the things she is expecting. Not being
able to go anywhere without a ‘Cougar’ (Special Agent) following her
was not
something she is going to get used to. Despite
all the small problems she manages to make the best of things and
enjoys her
start in the White House with her Cousin Miranda at her side.
This story of a young girl being exposed to
a different life and trying to make the best out of it without losing
her
touch with the normal world is funny and quirky. Sameera
is a lovely character and any young
girl reading this would definitely want to be her.
With a great cousin staying over and a nice
young man courting her she has it all.
To keep in touch with reality Sameera runs
a blog about her life in the White House.
Being the first Daughter sounds glamorous and wonderful but is
it really
all it seems? This book captures what it
could be like to live in the most famous house in the world but at
times it
seems a little too fluffy and fun.
Expecting a bit of a more thrilling
storyline this was quite perky and cute and kept away from anything
serious. Sure Sameera shows us how hard
it is to be different. The story points
out
how inter-racial relationships work and can suffer. There are also some
other
finer points of being a teenager included in this story to give the
reader some
thought. However all the characters seem
to be in a lovely world of happiness and for a presidents daughter she
has no
security scares or sees any action that readers would expect from
Sameera’s new
world of being the First Daughter.
Refreshing and new this story has a great
angle with Sameera’s blog which keeps things looking realistic. This book can stand alone but I am sure the
series is a great read as a whole. It
has appeal and will be enjoyed by many a young girl!
