The
story continues and Chris actually does come in
contact with someone that is interested in his ideas. Chris portrays
himself as
an adult because he is afraid the man won’t listen to him if he finds
out he is
only a child. The man decides that he wants to meet Chris, so Chris
knows the
gig is up. He tells his parents, who are at first shocked and a little
disappointed that their son kept this a secret from them. They then
realize
that their ten year old son’s dreams may come true and decide to talk
to the
man from the big company and meet him.
Chris
finds that the man liked his idea of cotton
elastics not for baby socks, but for spacesuits he has been trying to
design
for astronauts. Chris is at first
disappointed because he really doesn’t care about that; he wanted to
invent
something to help his sister. The big
business man is so indebted to Chris for his simple, yet genius idea
that he also
uses that same material to invent the socks Chris thought up.
The
moral of this story is that if you put your mind to
it, and you have parents who encourage you, you really can accomplish
anything
you want to. Even if it seems too hard, you can do it. This is a great
story to
reinforce that value in children. It also teaches the importance of
family and
being open and honest with all of your family members. This is a great
read for
all young children!
